You’ll get more done with less time while feeling incredible and productive. Healthy food can push you through a hectic day like 4 cups of coffee. I’ve written a post on how to meal prep quickly and effectively and a post on how to prepare quick healthy meals anywhere. These posts laid out the mechanics of what to eat and how to prepare it. This post will help you develop a life long habit of eating healthy no matter how busy you are. It will explore the mental side behind creating the habit of eating healthy with a busy lifestyle.
Eating Healthy with a Busy Lifestyle Starts with your Intrinsic Motivation
Eating healthy with a busy lifestyle starts with uncovering your intrinsic motivation. Use the five why technique to find out what’s really motivating you to eat healthily. Write this motivation down every day or say it every day! This will remind you why you decided to begin a healthy lifestyle. It will motivate you in dark times when that brownie is calling you.
Revisit your intrinsic motivation often. Are you keeping it as a high priority? A busy life can erode core values. Take a step back each week or two and ask yourself what you’ve been prioritizing over the week. Are they things that are important to you? Are filler activities taking the place of more important activities? Be honest with yourself and don’t be afraid to cut out activities that aren’t adding value.
Eating Healthy with a Busy Lifestyle Begins with Uncovering your Values
What are your life values? What’s important to you? Have you ever taken the time to go through them? Listing your values can aid you in deciding what you’re willing to sacrifice. What things will you sacrifice to incorporate healthy habits? Often, the first things to go are going out to eat or binging Netflix. What things do you need to stay healthy and sane? For me, I need to create time for relationships and exercise.
Everyone will have different values. By listing them out you will know what’s important to you. Hold these dear when you begin to incorporate eating healthy with a busy lifestyle. This will keep you on track when you decide what to sacrifice and what to keep in your life.
Find Time You Didn’t Know You Had
Take an hour out of your busy day to list out all the activities you do on a day to day basis from the previous week. What activities can you do away with? What activities are important? Are there any activities that are huge time sucks that could be replaced with healthy activities like meal prep or exercise? Be honest with yourself and don’t beat yourself up. Remember your values when you decide to cut out activities.
Do this for a few weeks until you feel satisfied that you’re spending your time where you want to. There will be some activities that you don’t want to do that you have to. End the things that are optional where you feel like you’re wasting your time. Getting rid of activities that don’t add value will make you feel better and more productive. This leaves more time for eating healthy with a busy lifestyle. When I started eating healthy, I found myself going to the bar less, eating out less often, and watching less TV. These things were no longer important.
