Circumnavigating the US by Bike: 22 – El Paso to Hachita

In August 2017 I set out on an open-ended bicycle tour circumnavigating the US. This video blog highlights the twenty-second leg of my journey from El Paso, TX to Hachita, NM.

This section of the ride was an incredible jaunt through the high desert. Leaving El Paso the scenery began to change dramatically. The two-day ride was surrounded by mountains and glorious desert landscape. I rode past cacti, yucca, and desert fauna. Every turn brought a new sight. The deserted roads made the riding even better. The wind and heat were rough at times, but the scenery helped me power through. I enjoyed the whole ride through the desert. Check out the video for the full experience.

The gap in my blog is due to my camera breaking! I managed to get a new one in El Paso to continue to document the journey!

Circumnavigating the US by Bike: 21 – Del Rio to Marathon

In August 2017 I set out on an open-ended bicycle tour circumnavigating the US. This video blog highlights the twenty-first leg of my journey from Del Rio to Marathon, Texas.

This ride was some of the most interesting of the tour. I rode through some desolate country and up some big hills. The mountains are pretty incredible out here in West Texas, but the climbing is steady and upwards. The scenery is beautiful and the terrain is sparse. There were areas where there were 60 miles without services. I’ve never been in an area of the country like this and I didn’t know it existed. There are stretches where the road will go straight for miles and then you’ll go up a big hill. I battled headwinds and weather to get to places. There is no water and no food.

Despite this, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by its beauty and people. People here are proud of their little Texas towns and the welcome is worth the desolate country. It was a great ride. Check out the video for the full experience!

Circumnavigating the US by Bike: 20 – Kerrville to Del Rio

In August 2017 I set out on an open-ended bicycle tour circumnavigating the US. This video blog highlights the twentieth leg of my journey from Kerrville to Del Rio, Texas.

This section of the ride included a lot of climbing up to really cool vistas. I didn’t even know areas of like this in Texas existed. There were some crazy climbs to Camp Wood, but the views at the top and the downhills after made it worth it. The West Texas hill country was amazing and included scenery and wildlife like I’ve never seen. I enjoyed interacting with it while truly experiencing this ride up mountains and over hills. The rivers were also a sight due to their incredible clarity. Join me as I jump into this ride and discover hill country. Check out the video for the full experience!

Circumnavigating the US by Bike: 19 – Johnson City to Kerrville

In August 2017 I set out on an open-ended bicycle tour circumnavigating the US. This video blog highlights the nineteenth leg of my journey from Johnson City to Kerrville, Texas.

This section of the journey was incredible. I entered hill country in earnest and experienced everything it has to offer. The terrain was incredibly rolling as I rode past wildlife, flowers, and rock formations. The rolling hills were refreshing as they provided incredible vistas of the landscape beyond. The dramatic change in scenery from the flatlands of East Texas was refreshing. I enjoyed conquering the hills while experiencing the clear water from the streams and rivers. I was really lucky to be joined by two awesome guys for this section! Check out the video for the full experience!

Circumnavigating the US by Bike: 18 – Houston to Johnson City

In August 2017 I set out on an open-ended bicycle tour circumnavigating the US. This video blog highlights the eighteenth leg of my journey from Houston to Johnson City, Texas.

This 3-day ride saw me leaving the confines of the city and heading out on some beautiful bike paths along the bayou. From there, it was farm roads with big pastures and cows. I entered hill country with some heavy crosswinds and large hills to deal with. Out of Austin, the scenery got incredibly beautiful. I was surrounded by huge ranches and big hills. The roads were lined with wildlife, cows, and flowers. It was quite the ride. Check out the video for the full experience!
