Most people see staying in one place as the only option. You are stuck working the same job day in and day out. There are no other options for doing something different. However, this is not true especially today. Location independence is very attainable. If you enjoy traveling and wandering you should never feel bound to one place. There are certain steps you need to take to realize location independence, but if it is something you truly want then nothing should stop you from moving towards it. This is something I want at least right now. I don’t like being bound in one place and I enjoy meeting new people and experiencing new things. Location independence brings its own challenges. In this post I wanted to go into how I would balance work and travel especially while being location independent.
Balancing work and travel while maintaining an independent lifestyle
Most people hate working while traveling. This is especially true when you get to travel very infrequently. It makes sense in this context to make the most of it that you possibly can and avoid work at all costs. However, when you are location independent travel is an everyday occurrence. I think the best time to fit work in is to really get into a batch schedule. You need to set aside time where you will just be working and other times where you will be exploring or traveling. This may be a few hours every morning or a week at a time. Batching work is much more efficient. It allows you to compartmentalize work and travel. You can avoid worrying about work while traveling.
The biggest issue would be the all too familiar fear of missing out (FOMO). It is important to realize that you will be around a place for longer than most people and you can enjoy it at your pace. You can avoid FOMO by traveling slow. You can also isolate yourself by heading to a café or shared workspace to get work done. Being location independent is not easy, but it is definitely a dream of mine. I am working hard to find a way to leave the 9 to 5 and realize my dream lifestyle. Let me know what your dream lifestyle would be. If it is location independence let me know how you would pull it off!
